LAKE GEORGE PARK AND FOUNTAIN St. Cloud, Minnesota

Lead Designer and Project Manager

The Lake George Fountain demonstrates the pivotal role Geoff plays as an urban designer, landscape architect and sculptor assisting cities in shaping a genuine identity, creating artful and engaging places, and designing built works that foster community pride.  Lake George is the primary open space serving Downtown St. Cloud, the surrounding neighborhoods, and St. Cloud State University. Known as “Granite City,” St. Cloud owes much of its history and economy to its bedrock.

The design announces entry to the city and visually connects downtown to Lake George previously severed by Highway 23. The fountain incorporates powerful granite monoliths that display a variety of surfaces—sawn, split, plug-marked, and drilled—which artfully express both the power of the raw stone and the evolution of an industry that fueled the local economy for more than a century.  In a very short time the fountain has become a regional icon and source of community pride.

“Having collaborated on more than 10 planning and design projects over a 20 year period in two dynamic metropolitan communities. Geoff has enhanced these communities’ form, function, and character through cooperative visioning and design of iconic redevelopment, revitalization, and new growth initiatives.  The recent rebirth and revitalization of St. Cloud’s Lake George complex is emblematic of Geoff’s influence on urban settings across the Midwest.”
